About us

Established in 2016 by Stephen Ruddock – aka Mr RudHair – our Sawbridgeworth salon quickly became one of the leading hairdressers in Hertfordshire and Essex.

Stephen’s dream was to find a team who were as passionate about hairdressing as he was. When he couldn’t find the right salon to work for, he decided to come home and establish his own – at the age of 25.

His handpicked team include colour gurus, bridal hair princess and award-winning vintage queens. Each has as much enthusiasm as Stephen, and together they bring a bit of London to beautiful Hertfordshire.

Stephen: Style Director

When he founded RudHair, Stephen combined his passion for hair and the Sawbridgeworth community. He wanted to create a “gentlewoman’s club” feel, with a touch of London. He is proudest of is his first asymmetric cut, perfomed when he was just 18. “I tweaked and tweaked until it was perfect,” he said. “It got me into shapes and angles, and taught me the value of satisfaction for a job well done.”

Hayley: Colour Director/Creative Stylist

Hayley turned to hairdressing at 19, after deciding hotel management wasn’t for her. She went to London, gaining a place on the elite Goldwell Master Colorist Program and becoming a trainer with Charles Worthington. When RudHair opened, she found a salon she could come home to.

Jade: Creative Stylist/Colourist

If hairdressing hadn’t been an option, Bristol-born Jade would have been a nurse. “It’s something about making people feel better – that’s what gives me purpose,” she said. Her passion for helping people look their best combined with a lovely manner with customers make her a real asset to RudHair.

Megan: Stylist/Colourist

When she was little, Megan wanted to be a princess. Now she likes making other people feel like royalty. She loves doing bridal hair, and is proud of her resume which covers romantic tressels to a glamorous wedding photo shoot.

Chloe: Colourist

After training and working with Toni & Guy in London, Chloe decided to take a career break in Cyprus . When she returned home to Sawbridgeworth, she nipped into the newly opened RudHair to get her colour done. “I told them I wanted to mix it up – I know my colours – and before I knew it, Stephen had offered me a job.”

Deja: The Future

RudHair is Dee’s first job. She plans to qualify in several areas, and her current passions are for colour and hairups.
